BG1209 & BG1210 Fitting Instructions Fitting a bonding in windscreen to a Land Rover Defender First step is to under the 2 plastic A Pillar trims on the inside of your Defender. They are held into place using 2x phillips head screws on each piece of trim. Next step is to remove the old windscreen and seal, this can be done by prising around the inner lip of the seal and lifting the seal over the lip of the windscreen frame. or you can use a stanley knife and cut the old seal out Once the windscreen has been removed, you can then clean the windscreen frame ready to apply the primer. You may find you have some aluminium corrosion on the frame, so at this stage you can remove any loose corrosion with a screwdriver and sand paper etc. The area where the glue is to be applied needs to be free from loose and flaky corrosion. Once it is clean, you can then apply the black primer using the round sponge head applicators to the recessed area where you will apply the bonding The next stage is to prepare the new windscreen itself. As with the windscreen frame, apply the primer around the edges of the glass where the bonding will sit. Then add a bead of sealant right around the edge of the glass, making sure to keep the bead of sealant on the black silk screen printed area. We also recommend applying a bead of sealant in the recess of the windscreen frame itself, both to improve sealing but also to create a thick bed of sealant for the glass to sit onto Once the glass and the windscreen frame has the sealant applied, you can then lift the windscreen into place. 2 people are best to do this, although you can do it on your own if you are careful. You should then gently press down, working around the edges to create a nice seal. Use the 2 plastic spacers that come in the kit to fit below the screen as below, to ensure the windscreen frame doesnt drop while curing. Also make sure when it is fitted into place, that no edge of the glass touches any metal around the edge, So look around every edge of the windscreen and if it is touching, slide it over slightly while the sealant is still wet All you need to do now is to refit the 2 inner plastic trims, leave it over night to cure and you can then enjoy your new upgraded windscreen!
